Open Call – When the Bleeding Stops – Lovísa Ósk Gunnarsdóttir

A participatory workshop for women and femininities aged 40–65 as part of the 17th ARC FOR DANCE FESTIVAL

The 17th ARC FOR DANCE FESTIVAL is inviting women and femininities aged 40–65 to participate in the free workshop When the Bleeding Stops — and if they so wish, in the staged work of the same name — led by Icelandic choreographer Lovísa Ósk Gunnarsdóttir.

The project touches upon various aspects of the experience of menopause, associated taboos, and the silence imposed by the social perception of aging, while illuminating manifestations of life at every stage of its flow, in its private and collective forms.

The workshop acts as a prerequisite and part of the staged work, as it creates a space of vulnerability, empathy and connection where sharing and pleasure will seek to replace the distress and uncertainty associated with the experience of menopause.

The workshop starts in early March, to be concluded in May. Its first stage will be held online, through an exchange of thoughts and experiences, and even…with some dancing in your living room!

As part of the process, short videos will be created, part of which may be presented in the context of the staged work (subject to discussion and consent).

Those who wish to do so may participate live on stage, on May 23, 2026, at the Olympia City Music Theatre “Maria Callas”.

The work will be presented in English, and no prior dance or stage experience is required!
